Typology: Industrial Research
Final Result: FR4 | Reference framework for structured and targeted deployment of AI technologies in the ceramics industry.
Responsible Partner: Sacmi
Duration: 30 months
Operative Units: Imola (BO)
WP 4 is to apply artificial intelligence (AI) tools to identify and classify hidden patterns in the operational and performance data of manufacturing systems in the ceramics sector.
The goal is to identify the most promising use cases for the use of AI to improve the productivity and sustainability of the industry, particularly from an environmental and energy perspective.
Different methodologies will be used to identify the most suitable algorithms and develop an IoT technology infrastructure to enable data collection and processing.
The results of the research will provide a framework for the structured application of AI technologies in the ceramics industry, accelerating the transition to Intelligent Manufacturing and contributing to reduced process variability and increased product quality, resulting in reduced process waste and increased sustainability.
In order to achieve the purpose of the WP, the activities described below have been planned.
Below are the results achieved to date:
WP 4.1 activities have led to the mapping of Use Cases to be taken into account in the ceramic context for the application of AI tools.
Research has highlighted how AI can be the key to creating applications that support operators in the operational management of their machines, bridging the gaps and difficulties that mostly impact the daily management of a ceramic plant today. These include the need to resort to numerous off-line quality controls, difficulty in finding specific skills, the need for continuous product innovation, and the need to promptly address process variability that can interfere with the reliability of the lines or the quality of the product.
