Overview

START is an Industrial Research and Experimental Development Project promoted by Gruppo Ceramiche Gresmalt and Sacmi in collaboration with the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, the University of Calabria e the University of Sassari. 

The project is co-funded by the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy (MIMIT) and started its activities on May 1, 2023, with an expected duration of 36 months.

Gresmalt and Sacmi are significant players in the value chain of the ceramic industry, representing the tile manufacturing industry and the mechatronics industry that provides technology to the sector, respectively.

The two companies, together with the universities, aim to lay the groundwork for the transition from the Smart Factory, based on Industry 4.0 technologies, to the Intelligent Factory, utilizing Artificial Intelligence to develop and implement more efficient and sustainable technological solutions that will accompany industrial enterprises towards the Intelligent Industry, also through the adoption of data-driven business models.
