WP 3 focuses on the study of adaptive building envelopes, particularly those made of ceramic material.
The goal is to develop an integrated approach that combines performance efficiency of the envelope with indoor microclimatic well-being, in order to predictively control the building envelope to adapt to different climatic and activity conditions for occupants, ensuring their comfort.
The research involves studying the state of the art of adaptive envelopes, building a test housing module and monitoring its conditions during different seasons. Indoor air quality surveys will be conducted, and information will be collected on occupants' perceived comfort. In addition, environmental and microclimatic parameters related to different categories of users and buildings will be studied in order to develop a predictive model for remote control of the system. Finally, modifications will be made to the envelope materials to improve their performance and energy efficiency, following circular economy principles.
Expected results include the identification of parameters to ensure indoor comfort, the definition of a predictive model for indoor environmental control and energy optimization of the envelope, and possible improvements in the ceramic materials used.
The innovative approach of the research lies in the combination of different disciplines and the adoption of a circular approach to end-of-life material use.
In order to achieve the purpose of the WP, the activities described below have been planned.
