The START project presented at the ISIEA 2025 international conference
The START project was presented at the International Symposium on Industrial Engineering and Automation β ISIEA 2025, held in Bolzano from June 18 to 20. The conference, dedicated to the challenges facing manufacturing towards 2030, provided an international forum for discussion on automation, digital twins, and advanced production models.
UNISS: call for proposals published for the design of a data collection module
The call for proposals for the design of a data collection module, aimed at DADU students, is now online on the UNISS website. The project concerns a minimal housing module with a ventilated ceramic envelope, which will be installed in Alghero to monitor microclimatic conditions and develop a digital twin for automatic control of environmental comfort.
Setup of the LaCI Industrial Ceramics Laboratory at the University of Calabria underway
Preparations are underway at the University of Calabria for the setting up of the Industrial Ceramics Laboratory (LaCI), which will be located at DiBEST, in Cube 14B. As part of the START project, the laboratory will host experimental activities on ceramic samples and data analysis to support Artificial Intelligence models. The equipment has already been delivered and transferred to the new premises.
Official launch of START project activities
The START project activities began on May 1, 2023, after the conclusion of the evaluation process by CNR-ISSMC and UniCredit Banca. On May 16, 2023, a kick-off meeting was held with all partners, during which governance, monitoring tools, and procedures for launching activities for each Implementation Objective were defined.
Innovation Agreement: agreement signed and Concession Decree transmitted
On December 20, 2022, the START partners signed the Innovation Agreement with the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy, as required by Ministerial Decree 31/12/2021. Once the pre-decree documentation had been uploaded, on March 30, 2023, the MIMIT transmitted the Concession Decree for the Subsidies, formalizing its support for the project.
START Project: first inspection visit for preliminary assessment carried out
On September 14, 2022, the first inspection visit for the preliminary evaluation of the START project took place virtually. The Technical Scientific Expert of the CNR-ISSMC and the Managing Entity UniCredit Banca, together with the Management Committee, examined the technical and administrative aspects of the project, providing useful guidance for continuing the evaluation process.
Innovation Agreements: application for funding for the START project submitted
The Innovation Agreements of the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy support industrial research and development projects focused on new products, processes, and services. On May 11, 2022, the START partners submitted the subsidy application, complete with technical data sheet, development plan, and Partnership Agreement, initiating the formal project evaluation process.
